In the last week the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust NZ launched a major survey of full-time grandparent and whanau caregivers online, which is being funded by a Lotteries Community Sector Research grant and led by Dr Liz Gordon of Pukeko Research and Canterbury University.
In the 2013 census, 9543 grandparents reported they were raising grandchildren and over a third of them are members of GRG. Many are raising some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable and at-risk children who would otherwise be in foster care. The aim of our study is to better understand the extent to which various social and economic issues affect them so that our organization and others working with these families can better tailor services to support them and promote changes in policy and practice that will improve their lives.
We are hoping you would be willing to share this opportunity with grandparent and whanau caregivers in your network and by putting a link to the survey on your website and/or in your newsletters.
The survey is accessible on the Trust’s website to all full-time grandparent and whanau/kin caregivers in New Zealand. The survey will run until mid-May. Our goal is that every grandparent or whanau caregiver raising someone else’s child has the opportunity to complete the survey and have their say on the important issues affecting them. The link to the survey and key information is as follows:

Thank you for your support.
