Age Friendly Business signs displayed on Kāpiti businesses indicate that the enterprise involved offers its customers a welcoming environment.
Kāpiti Coast Grey Power, its national body (NZGP) and central North Island Grey Power associations, have developed this Age Friendly initiative. And it is taking off. Already many diverse businesses in the Kāpiti district have been approved. Age Friendly approval also confirms a commitment to continuous improvement in line with internationally agreed principles. The concept of Age Friendly communities was originally developed by the WHO. Grey Power has simplified the concept, encouraging local businesses to adopt a more conscious, customer-based approach.
The shop requirements for approval are relatively basic, but sensible and practical:

- Shelf height reachable for likely products
- Signage readable, including prices
- Payment processes assisted
